Maytag Natural Gas Dryer, Model # D64000, Series 01, Serial # 341251 00

This dryer performed flawlessly until about two weeks ago. Now the timer will not move and it takes forever for clothes to dry. The pilot light will ignite the gas but I have not watched it long enough to see how long the flame lasts. The clothes stay damp forever and the temperature of the load seems to have only marginally increased.

Please help.

Wow, must be an oldie but moldy cuz I ain't finding nuttin' with that model number. You sure it's right?

As for the timer not moving, are you getting voltage supply to the timer motor? Also, if you have a wiring diagram, post it here or fax it to me at 866-315-4504.

The light was hitting the model # at a bad angle. The correct model # is D0400.

I will check the voltage to the timer but I inherited this dryer from a friend and do not have an owners manual and, alas no wiring diagram.

Upon opening the panel over the controls I discovered the wiring diagram, albeit faded and hard to read . I am not in the possession of a fax but could attempt to scan and email if you so desire.

Is there a wiring diagram part number ?

On the bottom of the wiring diagram under Electrical Wiring Diagram two sets of numbers appear.

The first series appears on the bottom left and reads 3-1524. The second series appears on the bottom right and reads 85 4 VD-0091

I omitted a number on the first series of numbers. It should read 3-15284

sorry about all of the confusion but on inspecting the plate on the dryer on again it appears that the model number is DG4000. This does appear in the Maytag inventory.

It appears that my eyesight is even worse than I thought.

I am getting 121 Volts to the timer.

You'd have to watch to see how long the flame stays on, and maybe check the temperature out the back with the vent disconnected, EMPTY load, Timed Dry, Regular Cycle.

It should cycle somewhere between 135F - 155F

I have no way of measuring the temp at the back. Do I need to get a thermometer?

a meat thermometer would work.

It sounds like it could be one of the gas coils is bad (sold as a set)

Depending on which dryer cycle it's set for, the Timer is sometimes controlled by itself and sometimes by the Cycling Thermostat.

The Timer should run if there's 120v across the Timer motor.

I disconnected the vent and what a difference!! I used an old hanging Taylor oven guide so my temps are approximate but the dryer would click on, run for about one minute 15 or so to about 140 degrees, shut off and click back on at about 110-120 degrees. In addition the timer dial seemed to have moved some during the three cycles the dryer ran. I am in the process of replacing my vent hose. Is it possible that my problems would stem from inadequate air flow through my vent?

YES.

also, there should be NO plastic pipe, NO screws, metal foil duct tape is OK, rigid metal vent is best, flexible metal is so-so, but make sure it doesn't get crimped when moving the dryer back into position.

25 feet maximum length. Subtract 5 feet for every 90° elbow.

You have an Auto Dry unit.  Timer advances in Auto dry when the cycling tstat opens.  On a poorly vented unit, the Hi limit will kick it off first which will never allow the timer to advance in auto dry.  Will advance fine in time, but not budge in Auto.
