The left rear burner on this cooktop goes on and off constantly.  On high it works properly but on low and medium it don't seem to operate correctly.  Model mumber

GJC3634RS02.  Is this normal or a problem?

Thanks for the reply RegUS_PatOff'  This is called the bridge element.  I tested the voltage at the element and it comes and goes.  The infinite switch is turning the power on and off so I was thinking that the switch was bad.  Replaced switch and same problem. Can the element be drawing too much amps I wonder?

I had one doing the same thing. I replaced the burner and problem solved. Does hot indicator light stay on constantly or is it burned out? I checked all burners for continuity and ohm reading the burner i replaced was way off from others.

The h ot light indicator turns off.  This burner cycles so quick that customer cannot cook on it.  Whirlpool says it is supposed to cycle that way.

Using the whirlpool service manual link on above reply see page 25 to test burners. Probably will find this burner bad. Also test limiter on page 25 . i would take a new burner with me on call. I am not sure if you can buy the limiter separately. Most of these are one piece unit

I NEED TO MENTION THAT TESTING THE WIRES GOING TO THE ELEMENT THAT THE POWER IS BEING DROPPED COMING FROM THE INFINITE SWITCH. DO YOU THINK THAT A BAD ELEMENT WILL CYCLE THE SWITCH ON  AND OFF RAPIDLY?

Posted

a switch may be bad, loose, intermittent

Are any of the other switches the same that you could swap the wires from another switch to test ?

Right/Front ?

Already replaced switch thinking that was the problem because the voltage was going on and off with the burner.  The burner for this cooktop is a cool $150.00.  Everything ohms good but under load goes on and off.  This may be normal as this is a heavy wattage burner.

Where are you buying the burner element? Wholesale price in ft worth is $43.44. I had the same exact problem and finally bought element and changed problem solved

SORRY LOOKED AT WRONG ELEMENT #  IT IS 150.00!!

Sorry been a long week was thinking about another job! Is she using flat pans when cooking?  Just fishing now.

Don't know what pots she is using.  When the burner is on low it is off more that it is on. I am really thinking that this is the way it was designed.  I was hoping someone else has seen this bridge element in action. I really appreciate all the help with this problem.  Like I posted above Whirlpool says this is normal, customer says she can"t use the burner so I don;t know.

THANKS.............

it could be a bad connection on the switch or the burner / or bad switch or burner

You could try swaping it with another burner if there's one with the same wattage .

I could only find the GJC3634RS01 Wiring Sheet

but SearsParts shows different burners for GJC3634RS02

also:  Whirlpool & KitchenAid Built-In Electric Cooktops KR-26

Is that KR-26 job aid somewhere on the site? No access to servicematters. Did a search here, but no luck.
