I have a front load washer and the inner drum doesn't spin in either direction.  It will move about 1/2" in either direction and then it locks up like there are breaks on!  I removed the belt and the motor is working properly in all cycles.  Shouldn't the inner drum turn freely after removing the belt?  I checked for error codes and a E59 comes up, which is no tacho signal for 3 seconds.

While I was trouble shooting I noticed that something penetrated the rubber hose, drain, coin trap, that connects to the outer tub and the drain pump and was leaking.  This is also connected to an air bell and pressure sensor.  Would this cause the inner drum from turning?

Thanks for all of your help,

Wan

Are you saying that the drum doesn't turn freely even with the belt removed from the drum pulley? If so, then I would suspect the drum bearings. See any rusty stains back there?

Posted

That's right!  With the belt off, I can't turn the large pully on the back of the drum in either direction.  I didn't notice any rust.  The machine looks in rather good condition inside and out.  Should the drum move freely with the belt off?

Thanks, Wan

With the belt off , the drum should turn. A big flashlite and start looking in the holes of the spin basket. You may find a nail , screw etc. that is stopping the drum from turning. Also , socks etc. can get inbetween the inner and outer tubs .. Have a peek and let us know.

If a sock got wedged in between the spin basket and the outer drum, is there an easy way to get it out?  Or do I have to take this bad boy apart?  I never had one apart before is this a big job?

Thanks,

only access to the inside of the tub is the boot on the pump(where your thing sticking out is)

btw its prolly a wire from a bra, remove the boot, maybe the wire is all that is jamming the tub if your lucky

otherwise you have to seperate the tubs and inspect the spider on the back of the inner tub

quick test to see if its broken is to reach inside the tub grasp 2 vanes then push on one from the front and pull on the other from the back, if a mount is broken the tub will flex and pop like an oil can, repeat this three times spinning the drum and using 2 different vanes each time

Good call! I removed the boot, because something penetrated it, and I pulled out two wires from a bra.  That was the first for me, but you must have seen this before.  Anyway, my tub was still jammed.  What do you meen by the spider on the back of the inner tub?  Are those the supports?

Thanks,

Wan

yes, the supports

there a a few different names used for it.... spider, trunion, tripod, support

all one in the same

and if you cant turn the tub with the belt off either the tub supports are broken or somethin is between the tubs

make sure you look in every hole in the tub with a flashlight, nails hide real good

I got the drum to break free, but I never did see what was holding it up. I filled it with water a few times and checked the boot for foreign material and never did see anything.

Thanks for all of your help,

Wan
