My dehumidifier is running all the time - I can hear the compressor kick in now and again but the fan is going almost constantly. It doesnt collect much water - even on very humid days. Seems to me its just sucking electricity - ideas? Thanks.

Remove the cover and check the evaporator frost with the dehu running. Should see a light sheen of frost. If not, then you've had a sealed system leak.

Will do - a sealed system leak would not be worth the repair cost?

acording to this Whirlpool AD40G1 Wiring Diagram (the BEST COPY AVAILABLE)

Normaly. the Fan should run only while the Compressor is running.
