Gibson Refrigerator RT17F7WP

Went down to see this refrigerator they said was making a horrible noise. They plugged it in again and it didn't do it for the few hours I was there fixing other things. A couple of hours after I left it started again.

It is coming from the freezer, so it's pretty obviously the evaporator fan, or fan blade.

Could it be anything else?

I'm thinking about just getting one sent to me so I can stop by Monday and pop it in, so they will have the extra fridge for Thanksgiving.

Is there anything else I could do? Could it be fixed with lubrication or adjusting the blade? I won't have the time to make a second trip if I am wrong.

Is the part specific to Gibson, or will any blade and motor do?

Given that both times it took some time for the noise to start, it seems either use or temperature related…

Gibson, made by Frigidaire

used on many Frigidaire models.

could be worn Motor shaft or Fan (hole)

standard 120v Fan Motor

as long as it fits and right rotation

So it sounds as if I get the motor and the fan blade, I'm pretty well covered.

That should take care of you. The rotation on those motors can be changed if needed by reversing the rotor in the stack.  Looking from the shaft side the rotor will turn in the direction of the thick wire loop wrapped around the stack.

You could lube the old motor and it would probably fix it, but for how long no ones knows and you don't really need to have a recall for saving $40-$50 parts.
