Trane XL 80 furnace

Hello,

Something is wrong with my Trane XL 80 furnace. The gas seems to be igniting and firing properly, but the blower won't turn on, so it is not heating our home.

Any suggestions?

There does not appear to be a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.

Also, I don't know if this is related or not, but we just had a problem with water condensation leaking from inside the heating ducts, apparently because the humidifier on the furnace was set too high.

Thank you!

is the Diagnostic Indicator Code Light blinking ?

Posted

Yes, it is blinking four times in succession.

What does that mean? I have three manuals for this furnace, and I can't find any reference to this light.

Open High Limit

could be due to the Blower not working...

How long does the Flame stay lit before it shuts down ?

Can you turn the Blower on manually (Thermostat or switch) ?

The full model number would help further ..

OK found it:

The model is TUD080R936J1.

Serial is R4213DC1G.

Installation date Feb 2001.

I shut off the gas and restarted it to get the gas to fire. It fired for 3+ minutes.

Before I shut off the gas, the red DIC light was blinking continuously. After the gas fired, it was blinking four times.

Have not been able to turn the blower on manually. It does not turn on by thermostat, and I don't see a switch for it on the furnace.

Thanks for your help ...

Hello, any more advice? I appreciate your help. Sorry if I'm being a pest. I think we can hold out one more day in an almost-unheated home while the Wisconsin weather is unusually mild. By end of Tuesday or Wednesday morning at the latest, I will need to make a service call on this. I'm hoping I can solve it with your help, before it comes to that! Thank you.

The chart for the blinking should be on the inside cover panel of the furnace.  That not withstanding, what's probably happening (as Reg pointed out) is that the heat coming on and the heat exchanger not being sufficiently cooled enough because of the blower is tripping out what is apparently a resettable hi limit.

You need to turn the thermostat fan setting to "on" and go down to the furnace and see if you at least hear the motor trying to turn (it will be humming).  If not, then you need to start checking to be sure you have voltage going to the blower motor.  If you have voltage, and no bloweee = new motor.

Thank you Reg and Robby for the replies. I will work on this tonight.

I plan to explain my next problem using only emoticons. For example:

Ok, let me try this one.......

Help (that one's easy) my toilet overflowed and blocked traffic to my house so that the muslims couldn't bow to Mecca.

Is that right??

Close ... Help, my toilet clogged, I am drowning, thank you for fixing it, I am not worthy!

BTW the furnace service call is in progress ... $993 all in for the new blower motor.

:contract:

:headbang:

:crybaby:

:tard:

Actually the guys are pretty cool. They showed me how a poor fit of the air filter was causing too much lint and dust to cake up the motor. They also showed me how to maintain the humidifier, which I did not know needs a new water panel regularly, and the drain hose needs to be de-scaled.
