I have a question for youse experienced type folks - when restringing GE electric dryers, do you always replace the insulators or just when they look bad, or...? Cuzzin Sam's Imaginary Friend

I don't replace every single insulator unless they're cracked (even hairline fractures) or broken. Same deal with the Frikkidaire dryer element re-strings.

only change whats broken

if you dont know yet there was a problem a while back with the GE dryers, when they first came out with the 4 plastic glides on the top the original heater housings only had one safety on the left side, these had overheat problems and should not be restrung

also the newest heater housings have a few extra insulators that the coil clips into and does not slide through... these are the housings you should save and restring cause the elements tend to last alot longer
