ok guys...I have a 4 ton central unit that's heating and cooling a 2000 square foot house....im wanting to add a 24'x24'x9' game room onto it that will be heavily insulated ....here is my question....

choice #1...can I just tie into the duct and run two more vents into the room?...or choice #2..... adding a window ac/heat unit in the room and leaving the home vents alone....

can you please give me some pros and cons to think about..?

thanks guys....:)

I'm not a HVAC expert, but I'd say choice #1,

but depending on how many inches of / and what type of insulation you have in the current 2000 sq ft house.

someone told me that the added room would be to much for the unit to handle and it would run all the time....

the house and the added room have R30 in the ceiling and R19 in the walls.

looks good

how long does it run now ?

just depends how hot it gets outside...it doesn't run to often through the day..Im just worried that the main house will get to temp before the added room does ...

8 to 10 hours run-time isn't un-common...

air-flow can be adjusted with individual duct dampers ...

I would not bother tieing into the existing ac system. It would put a strain on it. I would instead install a 1 .5 ton heatpump for that room and allow double doors into the rest of the house. I would add a wood heater into that game room too. In case of electrical failure in them bad winter storms like the one this year.

I agree. Nothing kills like overkill. perhaps a mini split. I know last summer Allbrands had a special on them in the 600 dollar range.
