Months ago I replaced the oven ignitor on this, which I'm sure has nothing to do with this.

The complaint is that both the oven and the stovetop give off a gas odor while burning. I found this a little doubtful, but wondered if you have any insights.

... unless it's just because after you repaired it, you've been paying too much attention to it...

Properly burned natural gas will no longer contain the "smell" additive.

Make sure the Top and Oven Burners and are lit completely around the Burner,

and are nice blue, with (barely) random (small) yellow tips...

You may be noticing the small amount of un-burned gas that escapes before the Burners ignite.

Gas smell or that someone sprayed something like wd-40 near an open flame and smell "that smell".  Could be someone has used chemicals in the home and a range or dryer will make it smell up the area when the chemical odors hit the heat source? Anyone done any thing in the house that could have given off fumes?

If this range is burning propane and the tank is low on fuel, that'll make it give off a faint ethyl mercaptan smell (that's the stink additive they put in fuel so you can schmeel it).

Nope, it's on city gas. It ended up not smelling like gas, as I cranked up the stovetop without lighting it and the whole family said that is not the smell. Didn't see anything that could be causing it, especially both on the burners and in the oven. Turned off gas and left family alive.

Pegi,

An interesting thought. Something in the kitchen that reacts with heat? A spilled cleaner bottle under the sink? Hmmm. Clever thinking. I wouldn't know how to track it down, and I haven't had the best wiffer on the planet. Thanks for the idea.

Have they recently painted, or used any paint thinner, paint cleaning products ?

The fumes will smell different when burned...

Tim, any signs of mice droppings.

When mice/rats get into a range and urinate in the insulation it really reaks bad when you turn the oven on.
