Whirlpool elect dryer #LEQ9508PWD

Hi folks, the proud owner of this unit was sure it was the start switch - she said it had "acted up" a few times requiring her to press it several times.

I found the switch/relay had power and when pushed closed the 120 volts and held it. Checked the limit and thermal cutoff - both are closed and I have 120 to the motor.

Actually I have 240 there but for the motor itself I have 120 across 4M and 5M. My suspicion is the plugin motor switch isn't closing to the start windings. I pushed the centrifugal switch in with a screwdriver and all I got was a buzz which I assume was the po ol motor trying to start on the run windings.

So...do these switches  fail regularly? Does this sound like ol Sam's problem - well, one of em anyway.

  Many thanks  - cuzzin sam

bad Motor ?

ugh, it didn't look bad, didn't smell burned but - the diagram looks like 4M is common and 5M provides power to start or run so, if I have 120 between 4 and 5 and no motor action - does that mean a bad motor? cuz

yep ..

or, if i put 120volts on 4M and 5M and it doesn't run, is that proof of a bad motor?

yes ..

OR you could try some resistance measurements...
