Customer said machine drained, started to spin, then stopped suddenly, made squealing noise and then smoke. She immediately cut machine off and tried to turn tub by hand but couldn't. Found belt burned. Pump and trans were stuck initially,  but was able to free them up by turning by hand. Tub turns freely counter clockwise and feels like brake engages when turned clockwise and very difficult to turn tub. Machine started to spin but makes a noise like jet engine spooling up. Same noise in GE usually ends in bearing failure. Suspect same here. Customer tried to wash another load and called and said machine now will not agitate. Since I have never cracked one of these open(mostly GE country around here), I felt it imperative I consult with the masters for  wisdom in seeking a solution.

So, you be saying that the basket will rotate in spin but not in agimutate? If so, then sounds like a bad xmission.

Using the old SWAG method, that is what I concluded. Was purchased from Sears and still under warranty. Handed 'em off to A&E.
