GE Gas Range Model# JGBC15GEK1AD

Replaced spark module. Connected wires per written instuctions with module. Surface burner ignitors work correctly but when oven is turned on, surface ignitors as well as oven ignitor come on and continues to spark until oven reaches temp and shuts down. Oven ignitor lights pilot and continues to spark after burner lights. This unit has ignitor located on pilot light assembly. Don't understand why surface ignitors come on when oven is turned on. Any one got any ideas??

Continued sparking is almost always caused by a grounding problem in the range. The spark module is looking for return current on the range's chassis. Common things that can interfere with this are:

- improperly grounded range outlet or reverse polarity at the outlet

- accumulated gookus under the burner head that insulates the burner head from the rest of the range - wire brushing

- leaky spark electrode wires -- is the spark grounds out before being rectified by the flame, then the spark module thinks the burner is not lit and so keeps sparking

or in the Wall outlet / wiring ..

check the voltages (and from Neutral to Ground) at the outlet while the Range is ON.

Polarity and voltage check OK. Spark module is grounded to chassis. Oven switch shows continuity through the whole temp range on the dial. Could it be the oven ignitor is not signalling the spark module to shut down after pilot lights?? Should surface ignitors come on when oven is turned on?? Would think oven switch is isolated from the surface ignitors.

Re-check the "connections per written instructions"

What universal module part number did you use ?

I don't have a wiring diagram for that range, unless you could scan & upload yours ..

... and module installation instructions ..

Thanks guys. Finally solved the mystery. Oven ignitor was on wrong tab on spark module. Either I goofed or the module  instructions were wrong. I'm blaming it on the instructions anyway.;)
