Dearborn heater DRC28A-2-N

Have a Dearborn space heater model no DRC28A-2-N serial no 2273685 it is for natural gas. It has a Maxitrol regulator on the itlet gas line.The regulator is bad.Does this heater need this regulator or will it work with out it,after all the gas is all ready regulated thru the gas meter.I have other Dearborn heaters that do not have regulators on them.Why does this one need a regulator.Please help,I need this heater.

If it has a regulator on it then that means the gas valve and orifices are set up for it. A regulator is not that much money. How do you know this one is bad?

Thank you so much for the reply and info.I'll order a new regulator,I was just wondering why this heater had a regulator on it,now,thanks to you I know.The old regulator is bungged up and leaking.By the way just, for my info is there a way to test a regulator?Thank you again for the reply.

You'd need a manometer. Unless you're in the business, why bother.

Any amount of water will kill a pressure regulator.

or humidity if it's been in storage without the "rubber cap" on the Gas Line Stub.
