Has anyone installed a surge protector on their HVAc outside unit disconnect box?

For a 3 ton heat pump they are about $50 for the part.

Any opinions??

my guess is that a "surge" is most likely to damage tv's computers and other home electronics before it will damage a heatpump or airconditioner.

what I mean is that the amount of current surge that it would take to cause major damage to your unit would also take out any other sensitive electronic devices in your home........

I would consider whole house surge protection (although a bit more costly).

True - I have those on plug in surge protectors now.

Typical relay connects to 24volts

You would probably come out better by installing a delay on make relay like the one above or similar. Especially if you have children or old folks playing with the thermostat
