I wrote about my gas Weil-McLain boiler about a week ago, but I also have an oil one that also partially went under water in a flood we recently had.

Before the flood, I shut off what I thought was the power to it, but the fan seems to have continued running and I don't know how to shut that off.

That part and the restart box did not go under water, so I still have some hope for getting the thing restarted myself...

I can't seem to find a model number on it... it looks to have corroded off or something. I noticed that the motor says Beckett on it.

Is there any hope for me doing anything myself, or do I need to pay someone?

In general, what kind of cleaning/maintenance can I do myself?

Any help appreciated! :)

RW Beckett is the manufactuerof the oil burner. Weil-Mc Clain manufactures the boiler.

When you say you hear the fan running, the oil pump would be running also and with ignition you would have fire.

Sounds as though you have no ignition, but the unit should shut off on safety.

There should be a relay mounted on the burner (little grey box) with a reset button.

Do not press this button more then once as the chamber may be full of oil and a "puff-back" could occur. There will be soot all over. :P

Ah... I actually did press the red reset button once about a week ago, and I thought something happened, because it made noise like it was starting up and doing something... but now all that seems to be happening is the fan is going.

:? Now what?

Oh!

Well, I was going to call the company who supplies the oil, since they often give discounts if you are a customer. (I'm kinda broke!) How do I know if they are "reputable"?

Thanks :)
