Greetings all,

We are hoping for some insight, troubleshooting and ideas on how to fix a little problem we have. We have 2 window ACs. They are 1 floor apart and one is directly below the other.

The top floor AC drips and it could clear the window below it, but hits the AC beneath instead, traveling out to either side, filling the windowsill with water and splashing up against the window frame...causing structural damage.

Here we have some options we have thought of, but have problems-

1-Move bottom AC to new location, but it cools the entire floor, and its current location is ideal for maximum cooling as it blows thru the living room opening into the kitchen, where we spend a good deal of time.

2-create an aluminum (or some other material) gutter to place above the bottom window/ AC letting the water dripping from the top AC to disperse out the sides and to the ground below.

3- connect a drain hose to the bottom of the top AC, allowing the drainage to bypass the window below all together. (what type of device would work?, is there a product-specific hose?)

The drain hole for both ACs is located pretty close to the window itself, which is weird, perhaps there was a part missing for this AC? (I'm grabbing at straws here)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

If it had been draining correctly before, it probably just needs to be cleand out. Over time gunk will build up and divert the water flow to leak out whereever it can.

thanks for your post! I don't think it ever drained correctly before. the top ac, from what we recall, always dripped onto the lower ac.

Should it not drip at all?

Yes it should drip if its working correctly. You may need to make the back of the unit lean down ever so slightly.

Put a window awning over the bottom ac. The awning will not only protect the ac but it will help keep the house cool.

Window awnings are a great investment. They keep my house cool. Check it out:
