I just wanted to touch base with the great minds and technical experienced people on this site. I am in the market for an upgrade of a furnace and a.c. unit and someone said to get a DUCANE unit.  I got an estimate of 5400.00 for furnace and 3 ton a.c. unit. 95% efficiency, limited lifetime warranty on heat exchanger, limited 10 yr. parts, 3 yr. on labor. I have about 1700sq.ft. home. Any info would be very helpful. Thanks again for having the best fixit site on the web.   jayray.

Ducane furnaces are excellent. They have a great track record here. Something like half the furnaces in this city are ducane 80% efficiency. The main control board is a very common and inexpensive honeywell control(making it cheap to replace when it does go bad) . I have never seen a heat exchanger go bad in a end shot burner ducane(and the oldest are about 15 years old).

You however are looking at a 95% condensing furnace. I sadly have not seen even one Ducane 95%. Around here the VERY small savings in fuel usage on a 95% vs a 80% is not worth the added cost of buying a 95% furnace. But I can see where a 95% would be worthwhile in Pittsburgh(burr).
