I have a few of my clients that spend the summer  up north.

Is it better to clean out and shut down the refrigerator while they are gone, or empty the beer out and leave the fridg running at a higher setting? House a/c is left on at 82 to 85 to control humidity.

Thanks

Compressor life is inversely proportional to run time; so the longer it runs, the closer it is to the grave. I wold clean it out, shut it down, and block the doors open so the evaporator can dry out (and so mold doesn't grow).

yes, definitely leave the doors open...also depending on the unit the evap. motor may get stuck from sitting up...Frigidaire made top mounts are extremely bad for this.

Leaving the doors open should help prevent the evaporator motor rust/freeze up.

I see this in rentals if they set to long between tenants, they just turn off the refrig and leave the doors shut. All the wet humid air will freeze up an evaporator motor pretty quickly.
