Ge Dishwasher

Recommended Posts

Checked this dish washer today. Cust says it fills but wont run. Pulled panel to acess the motor/pump. Took a screwdriver and tried to spin motor. I expected it to be siezed or free spinning. Instead I found the motor would turn slightly and then feel resistance. Pull screwdriver out and motor spins back to it's first position

I energized the motor and saw it do the same.

Is this pump bad or is something lodged inside? Should I have replacement parts on hand before pulling old motor to check?

Thanks guys!!! :thanks:

These GE dishwasher pump motors are famous for the face seals sticking together if not ran on a regular basis.

It can fell real spongy when trying to turn because the rubber portion of the seal is twisting and springing it back.

You might have to remove the motor just to make sure nothing is stuck in there holding it up.

You may need to replace the seal kit but most of the time once you break them loose it will still be OK and not leak. The impeller and seal kits aren't really that expensive even though this is a GE and it would advisable to change it if your in there anyway.
