Whirlpool GD5RVAXVY00 refrigerator won't dispense ice

First let me say that since my handwriting is so bad, the mod number could be GD "5" instead of "S"...but moving on quickly - the ice bucket is full but it's not attempting to give me any thru the door and to my embarrassment it couldn't get the front cover off. I tried pulling, peering intently, peering intently with a mirror and flashlight and no luck. I was hoping to find a micro switch, maybe a microswitch attached to a circuit board, something, but until I get the pretty little cover off it seems I'm sol.

So, would someone mind humiliating me by explaining how easy it is to get this off and maybe even what I might find inside? Thanks, Sam

the model number is GD5RVAXVY00. my suggestion before taking you dispenser apart is to activate the ice dispenser and listen for a tiny click. If you hear the click the switch is most likely good. Try opening the freezer door and holing the door switch closed while activating the dispenser. sometimes the door is out of alignment and the switch wont be fully contacted.

Still nothing? what i would do next is to inspect the wires coming into the door. im not sure on this unit if the wires go thru the top or bottom hinge but either way, inspect the wires even give a gentle tug on all the wires to see if any are broke.

Now if nothing else worked, its time to dig into your request of getting off the front panel. First, bend down so you can see the under side of the dispenser panel. you should see 1 or 2 slits in the plastic designed to insert a screw driver for prying off the panel. put the screw driver in that slot/s and gently pry. in most cases this is not easy but it should POP off at 2 points at the bottom and possibly 1 point half way up on each side. once those are loose. LIFT off the panel and disconnect wires.

The rest should be easy to see once you get that off.
