GE Dryer noise and vibration

AmTec Services

Recommended Posts

Checked this dryer for vibrations. Took the front panel off and could see the wheel slightly out of round and a little loose on the shaft. Also had some rub marks on the fins. Installed a new wheel and found it still vibrates. Suspect bearing damage to the motor.

Any way to run this style dryer with the panel off so I can observe/feel the motor and wheel? The cust is going to replace the dryer instead of any further repairs. Next time I'm on one of these I want to be a better troubleshooter. Any advice?

Thanks!

You can run it dissassembled ( air only mode ) , just bypass the door switch and trigger the belt switch. Its depends on on the characteristics of the vibrations as to where the problem lies. If the dryer was quiet and then vibrated each time the heating element cycled that's usually a blower problem. Blower could be a little too far forward or too far back. If the vibration is constant it could be the bearing in the motor but that's uncommon however, its not that uncommon for the bottom of the dryer to warp a little causing the motor to flex in the mounts slightly which in turn will cause the vibration. Of course you have the upper bearing , glides, front felt, and the rim of the drum that can cause vibration.
