GE Top Load Washer M# WHRE5550K2WW

Hi All, This Ge Top Load Washer Model# WHRE5550K2WW will not spin or agitate. The green light on the motor blinks one second on one second off (normal standby). When I put it into Service Mode, the water valves worked but when it got to the dry agitate position, there was no motor action and the green light continued to blink normal stand by. Turned the dial and it pumped water out. Turned dial to spin, and again no motor action and the green light blinked normal stand by. Is the lid switch a common problem? Is there a way to jump lid switch? Thank You Very Much, Bob

Edit: Have done a bunch more reading. Gonna have to go back and do the voltage checks on the C2 connector at the motor.

Should the lid switch be truck stock (cheap enough). Or are the problems with these mostly the motor/inverter.

... Is there a way to jump lid switch?

yes, but the Washer will error-out if it doesn't see the Lid Switch "open" after 2 complete wash cycles) ,

it will shut down the motor and initiate a lid switch error code.

This error will prevent the motor from operating until the problem is repaired.

To access the lid switch it is necessary to open the lid and reach under the cover assembly.

To release it from the cover requires pressing the lid switch latch in firmly and gently pushing the switch up.

The switch can then be lifted through the opening.

Thanks Reg, The washer giving an error code if it doesn't see the lid switch open makes perfect sense. So the best way to test the lid switch is an ohm check on the switch connector in the control panel with the lid closed? Closing the lid and not being able to "see", "hear", "feel" a switch actuating is the confusing part.

It's a "magnetic reed switch"

Is the Magnet in place ?

Yet another Update: After doing the voltage tests on the C2 connector at the motor, the motor was indeed getting the proper voltage. This washer is only a year old, but I was still kinda surprised that she wanted to go ahead and replace the motor because of the cost of this repair. (No extended warranty, she just bought the house in October and washer came with house) Anyway, washer is fixed, she's happy, so I'm happy. Thanks! Bob

So, the washer was throwing a lid switch error but the real problem turned out to be the motor? Another example of how you can't just blindly change parts according to the error code. Good troubleshooting, Bob, and domo for posting the repair outcome!
