Whirlpool Dryer

I had two service calls this week on Whirpool Dryers. Model number 11066662500 w/motor number 558NXNBG-7004. Both customers complained of a loud noise when they turned on the dryer. The noise suddenly came on for the first time after about a month of use. The sound is similar to a popcicle stick that is striking the blower fan. I examined the units and nothing was hitting the blower fan. I narrowed it down to the motor in both units. It was suggested to replace the motor with a new motor. I am unsure as to what is actually happening. Has anyone else run into this issue? Thanks for your time.

Sincerely, BrokenArrow

I've not run into or seen Whirlpool service bulletin on it. Does the noise last the entire time the dryer is running or does it go away as the dryer warms up? Also, you can easily be certain that the motor is the source of the noise by simply running the dryer with the dryer disassembled and then watching the motor. You might find that the little plastic fan wheel in the motor has warped and it hitting the motor cage. Or maybe there's a pencil in the blower wheel.

Yes, we have seen this, seems to be the armature hitting the field...shows the motor number to be 8538262 replaced by 279827...not sure where you got the motor number posted??
