I have taken the control panel out to inspect the control board, but can not get the plastic housing that covers the control board open.

I don't see the SHE44c)5UC /43 model in the document. I got the circuit board out and as eveyone predicted one of the pins on the board has melted the solder and the pin is burned down below the surface of the PCB. I am going to order a new board, but will I have to program the board after installation?

That's one of the models on the recall list if your serial number falls between FD8503 - FD8507.

If it's between the above serial numbers you can have a new board installed for free.

This use to be the Bosch site that had the recall info, (but it seems to have a problem right now):
