Kitchenaid Food Mixer - slows under load Model KMS90WW

Is a bad motor the only thing that would cause this mixer to slow under load?

Is replacing the rotor a crazy idea?

I forgot to mention that there's a 'burning' smell when it starts to slow ...

I wouldn't think it's the plastic gear (referred to in the video above) since the mixer moves fine with no load or a light load - it slows down greatly when warm and under heavy load.

Also, there is no speed change at all - when it has slowed down under load - when I vary the speed control.

Have you checked the brushes?  One on each side, I believe there maybe access/screw slot covers on each side of the main housing.
