Whirlpool Dryer Squeal

Whirlpool Dryer - Imperial Series

Mod: YLEN2000JQ1

Ser: ML2203645

Type: CWSR-ELE-2306024-CV54

The dryer squeals.  Almost always when it is first turned on.  Depending on the day, the weather in Berlin, Germany, and the phase of the moon, it stops (or not) before the cycle is done.

Some of the clothes we have put in there have been very wet (see my post of a few minutes ago concerning our Whirlpool washer).

Suppose I need a new belt?

Help!

Thanks

Dan

Doubtful it's a belt-- they usually just break, on occasion, they can make weird flapping noises as they begin to self-destruct. No, you're problem is either the drum rollers or the idler pulley. Use this page to help you take your dryer apart an inspect those most essential inner rolling components.

The drum rollers look fine - the spin freely.

The idler pulley seems to be not so much a pulley as a curved piece of metal(which has enough spring in it to act as an idler pulley i guess) covered in rubber.

There is a groove worn into the rubber, but not to the metal (I don't think)

Hello, my hosing friend. The problem is evident from your photos:, your dryer has the aborted and abominable slide-type idler pulley. Replace it with the venerable roller-type:
