The Maytag Repairman is the longest running real-life advertising character in American history.  How many actors have portrayed this iconic figure?  Find out at facebook.com/maytag

1st Generation--Jesse White  early 1960s until 1990s

2nd Generation--Gordon Jump  1990s until 2004

3rd Generation--Not sure of his name

4th Generation-Ned Devine

I forgot who the latest one is.

I met Gordon Jump in person when he made an appearance at our Christmas party when I was with Maytag Factory Service in 1995.

Jesse White    1967 - 1989  (died 1997, age 78)

Gordon Jump  1997 - 2003  (died a few months later, age 71)

In 2002, Maytag and Chevrolet joined forces to create a commercial

featuring both Maytag Repairmen and Chevy's new Impala.

The ad shows an Impala zig-zag through a highway filled with curves.

Inside the car, the apprentice repairman (who is driving) says to the veteran repairman (Gordon Jump),

"So you sure this is OK? What if someone calls?"

The two look at each other, laugh out loud, eat some jerky and continue to cruise the countryside

Hardy Rawls    2003 - (a former Mr. Goodwrench)

partnered with a younger, eager Maytag apprentice (Mark Devine)

In 2006, Maytag's rival, Whirlpool Corporation offered to buy the company for $1.7 billion.

Clay Jackson 2007
