Maytag WC202 Dishwasher New Pump Defective?

Some time ago, as detailed in this thread, I replaced the pump assembly (complete, and with a new drive belt) in my WC202 dishwasher. Washing efficacy is good, but the machine carries on making abnormal noise.

I got curious enough the other day to remove the lower wash arm, filter chamber and cover and watch/listen while the pump ran in drain mode with the dishwasher door open.

I think I see a problem: The abnormal noise in drain mode is correlated with water jetting upward into the filter chamber from a 3" (approx) section of the junction between the pump's inner top cover and outer bowl/housing.

Is this a good enough description for some enlightened commentary, or do I need to take some digital video?

I think a video would be helpful. I'm having trouble visualizing the problem.
