washer fills, starts to agitate, then stops after approx 30 seconds. after a minute or 2 we hear a click and then it starts again

same thing happens on all cycles, including spin. Slight burning smell. tried new motor - no change

no obstructions in pump. coupler appears ok. no leaks.

In the general case, this problem will be either a motor or a timer. Since you've already replaced the motor, that leaves the timer:

Before ordering the timer, be sure to check the integrity of the wires at the motor wire harness connector. Tug on each wire in the connector and look for blue corrosion.
