Returning guest presenter Aaron Wilson is back for another exciting discussion. This time, we'll be talking about...
The Science of CYA: How to Keep the Customer Safe, Document Your Work, and Not Get Sued
We take on a lot of liability as appliance repair techs, and that can get us into sticky situations whether we've done anything wrong or not. Aaron will be teaching us all about how to navigate this side of the trade.
We'll start by going over a tragic, real-world case study where a sloppy installation had lethal results, analyzing exactly how the installer's negligence caused this. From there, our scope will expand to what kind of safety precautions we should implement in our own work, both for the customer's sake and for our own.
But even if you do everything perfectly, there's still the famous "technician witch hunt." Well, we'll also talk about how to deal with that by thoroughly documenting your work and putting yourself beyond legal reproach.
A little about our guest, Aaron Wilson:
Aaron has been in the appliance repair trade for about 15 years, starting out by doing installations before moving on to bigger and better things. He worked for C&W Services as a Sub-Zero authorized servicer for a time and thereafter joined Mr. Appliance of Highland Park in the Dallas area, where he worked for years as the lead technician and field service manager. These days, he's making sure that all the appliances of everyone's favorite fried chicken place are in tip-top shape as the Quality and Performance Consultant for the southwest branch of Chick-fil-A. In addition, he has taught many classes on refrigeration repair and advanced diagnostics, during which time he also developed training material for the soft skills side of things, which he is delighted to share with you. On top of all that he's a certified graduate of the Master Samurai Tech Academy, so he knows his stuff!

THIS UNIT DOES NOT POWER UP AT ALL GOT POWER BUT NO COME ON I AM THINKING IT IS THE MICRO SWITCH   SO AL SAID MY HOMBRE PLS SEND ME THE REPAIR MANUAL TACO PRONTO

  • 3 weeks later...
Posted (edited)

You needed a manual quickly and waited some time to get the info, all the while the manual and info has been right under your nose.

Next time, try searching the forum and the download section using the first 4 or five characters of your model number and add an "*"(wildcard) at the end such as, "GLDT696*". Make sure you use the Appliantology search box at the top right corner when searching using a numerical string with a wildcard and make sure the box besides it says "forums" for a forum search and then "download" for a search of the downloads section.

For instance searching Gldt696* i found a post that led me to this minimanual

http://appliantology.org/files/file/667-ge-dishwasher-gldt696tss-dishwasher-minimanual/

and this topic that has some useful info

http://appliantology.org/topic/41356-ge-dishwasher-gld696tss-00/?hl=gldt696t%2A#entry250644

If I want more to find more info I just remove one or more digits from my search string and try... maybe "GLDT*"..... I get the same results. And I find that mini manual when I search the downlaod section.

Maybe there is a manual that covers the entire series and is named "GLD"? I am not sure, I don't even know that is the name of the series but what the heck, I'll try it. So I search forums and download section using "GLD*".

Searched forums and nothing came up... can't be... oops i forgot to switch the box from" this topic" to "forums".... ok... 112 threads came up.. scroll through them and look for some interesting stuff... uh oh there is a service bulletin... Didn't list my exact model but I'll check it out anyway.

Now I'll switch the box to downloads and search "GLD*".... Ok..10 results. There is the mini manual I found earlier... and lookie here! There is a manual named " GE and Profile GLD GLC GDWT PDW Dishwashers Technical Service Guide".... http://appliantology.org/files/file/1422-ge-and-profile-gld-glc-gdwt-pdw-dishwashers-technical-service-guide/

Ok great... but my exact model is not specifically mentioned in that guide but maybe GE simply uses the mini manual to update this technical guide... maybe not.. but I will check it out shortly

But right now, gonna keep looking at the search list... there is another bulletin... gonna see what that's about.... etc

Okay, now I want to bolster my overall knowledge of this issue.. so this time I will use the google search box located top middle of the page and search " GE dishwasher dead" I get 112 results including http://fixitnow.com/wp/2005/09/30/dishwasher-wont-run-no-power-to-dishwasher-dishwasher-dead-dishwasher-no-op-dishwasher-repair/. May not apply but who knows.

I see another post about GE Monograms recall due to a thermal fuse issue causing breaker trips... not relevant... good to know but it got me thinking.. does this thing have an internal fuse... Check wiring diagram.. No problem.

here's another thread http://appliantology.org/topic/34568-ge-dishwasher-pdw9280j00ss/. It involves PDW model... but wasn't didn't that tech guide I found include PDW series along with my series? hmmmm let's check out that thread.... something about a dead machine caused by a shorted touchpad.. I'll keel that in mind.

Anyhow, this is how you can use this site to the fullest... hope that helps!
