circulator pump issue or what?

Boiler fires fine ... what temp is around 200 deg F and pressure reads

 

when I set the thermostat 5 degrees + the actual temp nothing happens!

 

Boiler fires to maintain temp in oil water heater. I have hot water. House is comfortable temp outside is below freezing 28 degree so not terrible cold. cant detect any leaks in the house..

 

I think it is the circulator pump that has failed...

Do you have a boiler for heat and a separate water heater?

If so, it sounds like the hot water heater is working.

You need to check the pump for the heat in the house.

I don't know how many pumps you have but there should be one for each

heating zone in the house.

Check to see if your getting power to the pump.Check for amperage.

If it's drawing amps. Check to see if it's pumping.

if it's getting power and not pumping I'm thinking a bad pump.

Is it a green taco pump?

it is a  taco 110-bf2-j it is actually black. It is the only pump for the three zones for the house and a fourth zone for the hot water heater.

  The boiler heats the hot water.  what usually happens (I believe) is that the pump kicks on when there is a call for heat from a zone... the boiler than fires as cold water returns from the zone. The pump now does not kick on initially. so now the boiler only fires up occasionally to keep the temp of the water at 200 degrees(or there abouts) That's all I know at this point... I wll get the amperage checked thanks for responding

Sounds like the circulator relay may be bad. Direct wire the circulator and see if it runs. You most likely have a Triple acting Aquastat and relay is located inside

Not quite clear, do you mean to bypass the honeywell box in front of the furnace and go directly from the on/off switch to the pump?

ok I think I get it now that I google the honywell aquastatic / circulator pump relay. it is the box in the front. that is at least 15 years old if not more.

got the box (amyjean here) Hubby is going to do the fix tonight or Saturday. Luckily, the weather is holding out for us, but tonight supposed to drop to the teens.

All pipes will remain intact...the heat from the boiler will be sufficient to keep the basement warm. (my way of asking the universe for good vibes!)

Thank you for all your help! It was the aquastat relay- saved a fortune, and it was an easy switchout! (Hubby did it- not me!) only $75!
