The glow plug comes on and the unit fires up for a load. Next load, nothing happens--all else works fine.

Made by Frigidaire, however what does nothing happens mean?  Does the igniter come on?? And then cycle back off??   If so you have weak coils on top of the gas valve, they cannot open the valve when they are hot.  Will open the valve when they have cooled down. If this is not what the dryer is doing post back.

By "do nothing" I mean the igniter does not come on, basically nothing visible happens in the heating chamber/area. A few minutes later you turn it on and it fires up. My wife says that when it does heat, it's not as hot as usual. Thanks.

The ignitor has to come on and cycle off on the flame switch for the gas valve to open, if the igniter is not coming on at all you are going to have to trace down with your volt stick/meter to see where you are losing voltage in the heat circuit.  Might want to start at the flame switch on the side of the burner cone and work back to the thermostats, motor switch, heat selector switch, timer.  Find the schematic in your dryer to help you trace the circuit.

Thanks for the wiring diagram link---I found a hard copy of the same afterwards taped to the inside of the dryer--seems like a fire hazard to me.

Anyhow--before I go inside with the meter, I noticed that there's a strong advisory on this web site to check the exhaust ductways. This dryer came with the house so I have never checked out this part of the equation. It's all 4" hard piped with two 90s and 12' of length.

To test, can I disconnect the exhaust pipe back to within two feet of the dryer and just let it blow free into the adjoining closet? I definitely intend to clean the duct work thoroughly and reattach using dict tape only. But to troubleshoot, removing the majority of the ducting is the best way to see if back pressure is to blame?

you can disconnect the vent for testing purposes indeed, clean your vent thoroughly whether it is the problem or not,you will probably find a coil failure (part#12001349) do not operate dryer too long without vent as you are exhausting spent gasses.

The problem did not go away ehen I disconnected the exhaust line so I'll check the coil. The part # you listed corresponds to repair Clinic #3473 but when I typed the model number in on their site, they come up with part #3449.

They both look alike buit are priced slightly differently. Are they interchangeable?

Yes, they're all the same. Buy the less expensive ones.
