Returning guest presenter Aaron Wilson is back for another exciting discussion. This time, we'll be talking about...
The Science of CYA: How to Keep the Customer Safe, Document Your Work, and Not Get Sued
We take on a lot of liability as appliance repair techs, and that can get us into sticky situations whether we've done anything wrong or not. Aaron will be teaching us all about how to navigate this side of the trade.
We'll start by going over a tragic, real-world case study where a sloppy installation had lethal results, analyzing exactly how the installer's negligence caused this. From there, our scope will expand to what kind of safety precautions we should implement in our own work, both for the customer's sake and for our own.
But even if you do everything perfectly, there's still the famous "technician witch hunt." Well, we'll also talk about how to deal with that by thoroughly documenting your work and putting yourself beyond legal reproach.
A little about our guest, Aaron Wilson:
Aaron has been in the appliance repair trade for about 15 years, starting out by doing installations before moving on to bigger and better things. He worked for C&W Services as a Sub-Zero authorized servicer for a time and thereafter joined Mr. Appliance of Highland Park in the Dallas area, where he worked for years as the lead technician and field service manager. These days, he's making sure that all the appliances of everyone's favorite fried chicken place are in tip-top shape as the Quality and Performance Consultant for the southwest branch of Chick-fil-A. In addition, he has taught many classes on refrigeration repair and advanced diagnostics, during which time he also developed training material for the soft skills side of things, which he is delighted to share with you. On top of all that he's a certified graduate of the Master Samurai Tech Academy, so he knows his stuff!

Hello, I am searching for a tech manual for this Samsung M#RF268ABRS. I have searched the download section and the forums and while I can pull up information, I can not find a manual on the posts to download. Thanks for any help in advance!

We have multiple documents on this model. Watch this video on how to search the downloads section:

I have searched through the 6 or 7 records I found, and I do not see a tech manual on anything. I see information on a washer, and information on a defrost kit for ice buildup, but nothing that I can open for an actual manual.

What search term are you using in the search box?

I searched by the model number to pull any topic that used the model number.

What's a wild card? (HINT: the answer is in the screencast)

The manual I am looking for has the error codes, diagnostics, etc. The "manual" I found on here, tells me what parts to use in this event or that event, not how to run diagnostics.

This is exactly what the Fast Track shows and we have that loaded in the Download section.

What's the link to the manual you found in the Downloads section?

Still waiting for the answer to this question.

Nevermind. I give up. I was asking for help. Whatever is in the fast track, I went through each file, downloaded and did not see the manual with the diagnostics for error codes. And I dont have an answer to whats a wild card. But I give up trying to fix the fridge.

Don't give up now, we're so close! The wild card search is explained in the short little screencast I posted above. Do you watch it?

I'll review the Fast Track to see what information it has/omits. If it is as you say, I'll try to find you the manual.

Okay, I just downloaded the Fast Track that's already in our Downloads section-- you said you also downloaded the Fast Track. Since Fast Tracks are unmistakeable in their appearance and specific to a model family, then it is reasonable to assume that you and I are looking at the same document.

Whatever is in the fast track, I went through each file, downloaded and did not see the manual with the diagnostics for error codes.

Please post the link to the file you downloaded so we're both looking at the same document.

Your assertion that the diagnostic and error code information is not on the Fast Track is absolutely false. In fact, the error codes are located on page 4 of the Fast Track.

That Fast Track gives you all the diagnostic and error code info you need to troubleshoot most problems with that unit.

When I searched by the model number earlier, and multiple times, it never pulled the manual. I just searched the model number again, and a whole different set of documents came up. I found what I needed, TY. And I never said it wasn't there, I said I couldn't locate what I needed and was having trouble and needed help.

Undoubtedly because you watched the screencast and used the wildcard search as shown. Your welcome!  :blinky:

And I never said it wasn't there, I said I couldn't locate what I needed

In fact, what you said is:

You never answered my question asking which file you found.

... was having trouble and needed help.

My goal is help you help yourself and learn to do that which you can do for yourself.  That way, you'll find the information you need faster and the site will become a more effective tool for you.
