I have a Maytag PSD2450GRW, "French Door" style Refrigerator that has begun to make "snow" and ice on the lower hinge side of the freezer and freezer door. It has an ice and water dispenser in the freezer door. There looks to be a set of ventilation holes in the lower sector of the freezer door inner liner and that area is where the snow and ice are accumulating. I removed to accumulated snow and ice several times and I turned off the water supply a couple of days ago, but the snow and ice continue to accumulate. Anyone know what's causing this?

Threw me off thinking it was a french door when the model number pulls up a side by side. Check your drain line in the freezer. It could be clogged causing the ice in the bottom that would cause the door not to seal causing the snow in the freezer section.

I had that problem some time back and cleaned out the drain. It was causing a sheet of ice on the bottom of the freezer and when going through the defrost cycle it would drip on the floor. Drain is clear, this is a different problem and I haven't found any info online about it. I'm thinking that the water dispenser line, inside the door, has a pin hole leak, but wanted to see if anyone could confirm my suspicions before tearing into it. Yes, I suppose side by side would be a more accurate description.........

Ok, so next thing to look at is if the door is making a good seal. Look around the gasket for tears or places where it's not touching the cabinet. Snowball ice comes from warm air intrusion. I've never seen a line inside of a door with a leak, nor have I ever heard of one.

Door gasket's good, ice and snow not on or close to the gasket. I was just thinking that somehow, outside air is being drawn into the freezer through those small holes in the inner door liner. It's at my Mom's house, I'll look closer when I go over there later and take some photos.

Trying to load some pictures but the site has me limited to a very small total size. It's only letting me load this one small shot, but the holes I mentioned are shown. This is just above the bottom door tray and just below the second one up.

That looks like copious amounts of rime ice. Make sure the ice door is closing properly and sealing well. Possible door being left open. Definitely make sure the door is closing properly as mentioned above.

Thanks for the reply. My Mom has been out of town so the refrigerator has only been opened when I stop by to check the house and every day this snow and ice have returned. The door is closing completely and the gasket seems to be sealing. This problem is concentrated right around those holes in the inner door liner. Can anyone tell me what those holes are for? Possibly to vent air out when closing the door? If so, maybe the vent has stuck open and is allowing outside air to be drawn in?
