Last night, the missus put the oven in self-cleaning mode.  The oven started making a rattling noise as if a pack of live squirrels were being incinerated.    This morning, the squirrels are still banging around the oven and the door is stuck in the locked position.  The only way to end the racket was to remove the bottom drawer and pull the electrical connector.  I thought this might reset the oven, but no luck.  Searching the forum, I see that self cleaning is the kiss of death.  Did the wife murder the oven last night?  Also, is there any harm in using the stove top, with the electrical unplugged?  I know the igniter won't work, but otherwise it seems OK.  Thank you, and happy new year!

The key with using the self clean is that if you're going to use it, use it a lot. The problem comes when people use it once in a blue moon and then the accumulated grease in the door latch motor hardens and seizes the motor.

You'll need a new door lock motor at the least: Part number: WB49T10020

Part number: WB49T10020

The noise may be the cooling fan or the control continually trying to energize the door lock motor to unlock the door.

Thank you Shogun!  I ordered the part.  How do you open the door when it is locked?

You'll need to remove the cooktop by removing all burner caps and burner bases. The cooktop will lift off giving you access to the "guts."

Hey Shogun - That repair was fun!  It took a few minutes to replace the motor.  All is well and wifey is making good stuff in the oven.  Thanks for your help!

Same deal for me except I can't remove the cooktop because the screws are behind the door!!
