Replacing Oven Control Module on a Kenmore 790.97453804

I have a 5 year old Kenmore 790.97453804.  The oven wont get to temperature..toping out at about 230 degrees.  I have tested both elements and they tested out ok.  I took off the back panel and definitely found a problem with the Oven Control Board and I have googled to find it is part 316462807.  I have attached pictures of the existing board to show the fried board.  The pictures can be found here bit.ly/1PGwDOj

Two quick questions....it looks like this puppy is going to cost me around 250 bucks...as a newbie around here I want to make sure I am investing wisely.  First, this doesn't look like it is a terribly difficult repair as long as I take a picture of the board and replace the harnesses in the correct positions.  Is there anything I a missing here?

The second question and this requires looking at the fourth picture, the contacts that lead to what I believe is the convection fan show some flash.  You can see the insulation is a little toasty and one of the clamps has a little burn on it.   It tested the connections for fans (Im pretty sure it is the fan) continuity and it seemed ok.  That flash has me worried.  I don't want to spend 250 bucks on a control board and then find out I have other issues.  Could the control Board have caused this problem when it fried where it did?

Thanks in advance....I love the site.                 FBO3

That was probably a loose connection causing some resistance. Go ahead and replace the control board but you need to fix that wiring problem before you do. Beside buying a new wire harness you can cut off the plug and crimp on some single insulated female connectors and plug them back in one at a time. This will give you a good solid clean connection on the new control board. just be sure you label which wire goes on which post on the control board. You don't want to mix them up. Also inspect the other parts of the harness to make sure you don't have any other charbroiled wires or connections if you do fix them. You should be good after that.

check photo of connecter to use. You need crimp tool to make good SOLID STRONG connections.

OK...As you can see from the picture I will have to replace the connector but also one of the plugs from the harness.   is there any idea of where I could find one of these?  I asked sears parts and they said I could only buy the whole harness.  YIKES!

Yeah just cut both wires off red and orange from that connector and crimp on the female spade connectors and put them back on the new board just like they were on the old board. Yeah they will never give you a piece of a harness only the whole thing. If your handy with a crimper you don't have to do all that. Connections to the heating elements you want to use the all metal kind just like they have originally and again use your crimping tool. Good strong crimps and connections save the day every time.

If you dont know how to crimp and strip wires check Youtube im sure they have a video or two for you to watch. Be sure your confident in what your are doing  240volt and 50amps is nothing to play with. Be safe and good luck.

OK I have sent away for a new control board.  Will take a few days before it gets here.  Do you know if the stove top is still usable without the oven control board?  If I cover the open connections in electrical tape will the stove elements work?  A man still has to eat!

 Yes, The control board is for the oven only. You should still be able to use the cooktop.
