I performed a service test per the tech sheet and received a 1S on my display? should it be shorted?

also I put it in fd mode short how long is that? will it revert back to normal operations after?

thanks

Defrost thermostat should be shorted. That means it is closed.

The ujit will return to normal operation after a defrost cycle.

my question is

Why are you asking you're question, is there a problem with the refrigerator?  Did you just stumble upon the tech sheet and decided to play with it?  Or, are you a tech that wants to know what the S1 means and if the manual defrost will resume normal cooling on it's own?

thanks for the reply!,

So i am having issues with the refridgerator being warm and ice being built up on the coils and have replaced the jazz board two weeks ago and I am am waiting to see if it still has an issue that needs to be addressed but its hard because i have to take everything apart to get the the coil to see if its iced up.

I took the service sheet and went through the tests and this is what i got.....

test 1 defrost thermostat & defrost circuit -  I got a 1 S

test 2 compressor/condensor fan test- it appeared to go on (I Think)

test 3 evaporator/freezer fan test- that cycled on off fine.

test 4 fresh food thermistor- I got a P

test 5 freezer thermistor- I got  P

test 6 damper - i was able to hear it open and close

I did put it in a forced defrost cycle (short) But I dont know what to check when I put it in this mode or how long it runs for.

Any more help with this would be appreciated!

Thnaks,

Joe

#1-You have continuity in the circuit = closed circuit

#2- Either the compressor & fan runs or it does not.  Listen or look for the condenser fan running...listen/feel the compressor running.

#3 -Good

#4-it passes the board test, does not mean it is within specs

#5-see #4

#6-good

forced defrost is what it is ... defrost heater should be getting hot, caution do not put it into long cycle,  since you do not seem to know what you are doing.

thanks! I am still not sure after all this if it is properly defrosting. any suggestions

Is the heater working at all?

When you turn the unit off. (Display shows - -) Does the compressor turn off?

easiest way to tell if the defrost circuit is working is to take a current draw measurement. Do you have clamp meter?

what else could cause this problem?

I will have to try. I am not sure. all I have to do is lower the temp settings to turn it off correct?

if it does what does that mean?

Yes. That's how you turn it off.

If the compressor still runs then you have stuck relay on the control board. Pretty common with these. If this is the case then you will need to replace the control. If the compressor turns off then you will need to further diagnose a defrost problem.

great thanks! any suggestions on what to check next if that's the case?

The compressor may still shut off when you turn the controls off (- -). But this doesn't mean the board is good. Rather, the compressor staying on is a positive indication that the board is bad. The absence of this symptom is not diagnostically conclusive.

Let's keep it simple: your defrost system consists of two parts:

1. the control board

2. everything else (heater and terminator)

If the heater and terminator test good (which I believe you reported) then replace the control board and be done with it. As applianceman97 said, this is a very common problem with these units.

It depends on whether you manually defrost the evaporator coil or not. If you do, then about 4-8 hours. If not, then several days.
