Problem encountered when changing door seal for Bosch WVD24520GB/05 washing machine

Hi,

My door seal is torn so I bought a new one and hope to fix myself. I've seen videos on the youtube and I'm just one step to removing the old seal (I think!).

The problem is there is some sort of retaining screw instead of the spring to hold the seal.

I have attached a picture of the retaining screw. How do I unscrew it to remove the seal? Do I simply bend the catch (circled red)? It's very difficult to bend, given the limited space.

Thanks!

You unscrew that from the bottom... I believe it is a Philips head and it unscrews to give you enough slack in the wire to pull off the old seal. Reverse to reinstall. I usually spray rubbing alcohol on the new seal to aid in fitting it onto the outer tub lip.

Hi Gnominator77,

But it seems that there's a small catch there. I've uploaded a close up. It seems to prevent the screw from rotating.

Is that so?

Thanks!

That stops the nut from turning, just loosen the screw but make sure to go the right way since your kinda working upside down

Don't forget to mark the screw so you know how tight to make it when you put the new gasket on

Thanks sh2sh2 and AARDL!

Ya, managed to unscrew. Oh I forgot to mark the screw but luckily I've got the photo.

Putting back is really difficult. Managed to somewhat put back but it's a pain to tighten the screw due to the tight space. Will be getting a right angle screw driver. Is there any other way?

Thanks!

Not that I know of just a nut driver or screw driver.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. Managed to finally tighten it, using both a long thin screwdriver together with a right angled screwdriver.

Now the last part. I can't fit the spring retainer together with the seal for the exterior part. I watched the video and the guy fitted the seal nicely before putting on the retainer. Is this the right way?

However I can't seem to get the seal to fit nicely and when I tried to insert the retainer, I can't get it to fit. What's the proper way to do it? Do I need any tool?

Thanks

Never replace a Bosh spring clamp, someone else might know.

Sorry

Hi,

No, I never wanted to replace the spring clamp. Finally managed to insert the retainer with some clips and luck. It's finally all done and it's really not easy. But really learnt a few things from this repair. Thanks for the help!
