Hello, my neighbor gave me his old refrigerator because he did not feel like trying to repair it. Upon receiving it, it wasn't blowing cold air. I replaced the start relay and condenser (which was badly burnt) and rhe compressor kicked on fine and it started to blow cold air. The control board keeps flashing the number "4" on the fresh food side and upon googling it this usually indicated a bad damper. I took the old damper out and it was stuck in the open position. I recieved the new damper today and installed it and it's still flashing "4" and now the brand new damper doesn't open at all. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? Could it be the control board or maybe something else? Thank you for your help.

Yes, it means you posted a request for technical help in an appliance repair forum without posting a model number.

Bump. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

I included a link to the flashing 4 diagnostic procedure here:

Oops! Thanks for the bump.

The "4" error code indicates a damper error, either stuck open or closed. The damper motor is controlled by the main control board (the display). Be sure to see Brother Durham's illuminating link for more!

Mikie0607 is a GRASSHOPPER so some of those links aren't going to work for them.

Yes it will. Brother Durham linked him to a BLOG post, not a file in the DOWNLOADS section.  Blog posts are viewable by anyone. And the relevant link in his blog post is to his Dropbox. All good.

Did you miss the word "SOME"?

I was going to say he couldn't see it because I thought it was a download but I looked first and saw that it was a BLOG post.

Probably will be enough info but some of the links go to appliantology download files so won't be available to the GRASSHOPPER.

Sorry Samurai, matter of fact I did scan through that post a little to quickly and missed that.
