Jenn Air JDR8895AAS range burner/igniter remove

Have a 10 year old  Jenn Air JDR8895AAS range.  The bottom right burner that we use the most is having the igniter spark down at the base of the ceramic igniter and not at the tip.  It won't light the burner.  We are having to use a lighter toURL] light it.  The two screw heads are all rusted.  When I tried to turn them, they began to just slip and break off more of the rusted head.  Are these two screws are the only thing securing this burner head to the cooktop?  The part I am talking about is

Surface Burner Base W10406878

I have wrapped a small piece of wire around the metal top of the igniter to create a spark gap in that little valley are, but it takes a long time to ignite the gas.URL]

This is a real common problem on all older sealed burners like this.  The screws rust/corrode and the heads strip out or they snap off when trying to remove them.

You may have to drill out the screws but then you will have to do all of them because you will have to get the cooktop off so you can try to drill out or grab what is left of the screw with vise grips to remove from burner office holder assembly.

As a tech we would replace all of the burner orifice holders that screws broke off in because it would be too time consuming and may not be able to get old screws out without damaging burner orifice holders.

Replacing a bad ignitor can turn into an expensive job sometimes on sealed burner ranges.

I was afraid you were going to tell me to drill them out.  I got one of the rusted screws drilled out.  Very tedious to start with real small bits and work up in size but I did it. Replaced it with a stainless screw as i did the other three burners that I could get the screws out of.  Could not get them to even turn a little with heat and vise grips.  Just kept wearing the screw down to a nub.  Had to use the Dremmel with a cut off wheel to cut down to good metal on the screw, then center punch and drill. I temporarily solved the problem with the arcing at the base of the igniter by placing some shrink tubing over the ceramic where it was arcing.  The one screw seems to be holding the burner tight into place.  The other screw will be left for another day after I get sharper small bits.  I wore all mine out.  I can see why you wouldn't want to save the burners.  I took me three hours to get one screw out.
