Electrically Motor froze, struggles to turn WM3677HW combo

WM3367HW. ~. Was close by when the motor began to slow down, make growling noise (similar to failed bearing).  drum then struggled to turn, but Did slower than should. Turned Both directions with the " growling noise" - then LE code.  Rear panel removed, I dangerously assisted in the turning of the motor/drum while in cycle to feel an extremely short jerky type of rotation.  Eventually after resetting, the motor electrically froze - wouldn't turn. Drum turns very freely by hand when motor no on, although lights up control panel & bell charms when hand turning (even with cord unplugged) as a generator.    There's no feeling of loose or failed bearings. My 35 years of various mechanical/electrical experience tells me the electrical components are trying to turn the motor in both forward & reverse.
