Maytag dryer clunks and grinds when running. Opening the door in mid-cycle makes it come to a stop, as it should, but it stops with a very loud clunk.

Good ol' warhorse of a dryer, well worth fixing and won't cost much to do, either.

The noise you're describing is characteristic of a wallowed out blower wheel. Part number: Y303836

Part number: Y303836

Easy repair, probably take you all of 23 minutes to do.

Delivery time was excellent. Your analysis was spot on. I thank you very much. A couple of the  DIYers listed tools needed. On my dryer the blower assembly is held onto the shaft by a snap ring...so you might want to get a pair of snap ring pliers. Also, one caution, I tipped the dryer backwards to better work on it. And while putting on the snap ring it sprung off of the pliers and dropped down onto the dryer's floor pan. And, of course, slid under the housing, which is about a sixteenth of an inch above the pan, and out of sight--just enough room to screw me. . I leaned the dryer forward and rocked it pretty hard. The ring slid forward a little bit and I was able to fish it out. Keep your finger on the snap ring and don't let it go until it's on its way down the shaft. :) Thank you very much.
