Viking stove made a pop and no longer works.

Viking stove Model #VDSC305-4BSS oven went 'pop',  blew the house circuit breaker, and died.  The stovetop is gas, but the oven is electric. Once I reset the circuit breaker the electric starters for the gas stove work and the electric light in the oven works;  however  The oven does not heat. Whatever element popped left a white powder all over the interior of the oven.

Thoughts/suggestions?

Thank you

Get a good look inside the oven with a flashlight and see if you identify the shorted element, they are usually obvious.

Li-NY, The upper broiler element still works, it's the lower that does not function. Is it as simple as replacing the element, or is there more involved?

Thank you

It depends. If the element is obviously shorted then yes, it's that easy. But you'll need to get a look at it first.

If it's not obviously shorted it seems more likely that a wire related to the element shorted and then you'll have some investigative work to do.

David,

I've found the element is cracked in half and burnt out on one side; so obviously I'll need to replace it. That said, what do I need to look for as far as a related wire short?

Thank you

Probably nothing, if the element is shorted that's most likely the whole problem.  Just make sure the connectors for the new element are nice and tight.
