Kenmore Quiet Pak 2 squeals during agitage, grinds during spin?

Hi all,

Trying to diagnose a problem with a Kenmore Quiet Pak 2...  It seems to work fine and goes all the way they a cycle to wash clothes...  But it's very loud.

During spin it grinds/bumps really loud and the drum seems to be bouncing around (not sure if that's normal or not )...  During agitage, it squeals only when turning counter clockwise...  I'll try to upload a video, but any advice would be appreciated!  I'm thinking bearings? But not sure if that accounts for all...

Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the link!  I tried the test & it does/can move independent of the outer plastic tub - but it doesn't make the metallic clanking noise...  does that indicate either bearing or supports?

I took the back off & noticed that the rear shock by the motor was disconnected.  Put it back on and I'll try another load to see if there's any difference.  Also, there is a lot of brown, non-greasy dust coming from the bearing area - does that further indicate a bearing problem?

What I'm trying to do is determine if 1) it is the bearings, and 2) if it's only the bearings before replacing.  I bought the matching dryer from CL for like $100 and it works fine, they threw this washer in for free.  If I can get the washer working it's going to save me the purchase of a new matching set...  since the wife is getting kinda irritated about the situation lol

Thanks!

Does 26971 sound right?  There are a lot of numbers on the back - none clearly labeled model.  Also says Km lack 708 wt-g1

Oh!  Didn't realize I need the while assembly...  Couldn't I just replace the bearings?

It will be very difficult to get the rear outer  half and inner tub apart, if not impossible.  Our recommend solution for parts needed is a  guarantee to fit and work, not a maybe work.

Ok - thanks...  this is what I was thinking of trying...  What's your thought on the likelihood of this repair taking care of it?  From the looks of it, I think I can pull off what they're showing...

All you can do is try, most of us have no experience doing what you want to do because it is not a OEM repair so we cant speak on your chances of success.
