A few days  ago, my Kenmore washer started making loud noises and not working...    We took the cover off so that we can see and hear exactly what's going on.  When you start a cycle, the machine fills with water.  Next the agitator starts-- seemingly normal-- for a short time.  Then the agitation seems to "bog" down, slowing and getting noisy-- my husband says that the noise seems to be coming from the motor.  If you let it run, it will soon make a loud "pop" sound, stop quickly-- and then begin again.  We've never let it progress past this point for fear of completely burning the motor up.

The only other "test" that we've done is to turn the dial to the spin cycle.  When you pull the knob to begin the cycle, the drum begins to try to spin instantly-- while still full of water.  Then the machine makes a loud and rapid clicking sound.

Just looking at the coupler without disassembling the pump from the transmission, it appears to be okay.  We are thinking we will take the transmission out to get a better look at the coupler and the clutch, but they both *appear* to be okay.  We're beginning to think that there may be multiple issues, but aren't sure where to begin....

I did a few short youtube videos before we removed the cabinet-- may be helpful--       https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwuMObiD189Ol7MtyipqzEQ

Does anyone have any advice as to what we should try first?  Thanks!

Without seeing a youtube video seeing and hearing, it is hard to pinpoint it.  But... the leading cause from your description would be a bad gear case.
