The ice maker in my KitchenAid KSRA25FKSS00 has been giving me fits. It started when it wouldn't stop making ice and I had icicles forming down the front of the freezer.  I followed the troubleshooting guide to see which area the problem was at. It is a pre 2002 model. The diagnostics seemed to show the ice maker was fine and it also showed the optics were fine as well. I put everything back together and then it quit making ice all together. I tried the diagnostics again with the same results. It seemed to work for a few days, then started over making again. Meanwhile during this process, I had thawed out the ice maker and gotten all the ice that had formed under the ice tray out. I finally broke down ad replaced the optics boards. It seems to be making ice fine now and stopping when it gets full. My big problem now is, I still keep getting icicles down the front of the freezer. It seems that somehow, water is getting under the mold and then freezing and building up. When the heater comes on to harvest, the ice under the mold melts, then runs from the support tray creating the icicles. I have watched the fill process but I don't see where it is over filling. I have pulled the whole ice maker apart and put water in the mold and I have no leaks. When I took the ice maker apart, I had ice in the bottom of the control module but I got it cleaned up and don't know if that would be an issue. What am I missing here? Thanks so much in advance for any help you can offer.

Its kinda blurry, but you get the idea.

It's either your water valve or icemaker. Valve is less expensive but if your icemaker is over 5 years old,  it needs replacing anyway.

Is the mold nice and shiny green, like in the picture of the new one? I bet it has some of the shiny finish peeling off the inside.

Yes,it does have some flaking and is not as shiny, but I guess I don't understand how that would cause the icicles. Does the ice maker control how long the valve is energized? If so, is that maybe why it could possibly be overfilling slightly every fill and building up?

According to the appliance compatibility tool on the link you provided, this part is not compatible with my KSRA25FKSS00. It looks just like it, but all the parts I see for my model # you have to piece together. Since you're the guru, I just need to take your word for it and follow your advice. Thank you.

You are right,  it  is shown as not being compatible because that distributor only shows the icemaker parts,  not the entire icemaker on your model's parts breakdown.

The good thing is, if you get it from Appliancepartspros and for some reason it's not compatible, you get a full refund.  Thiat  is the standard optics controlled icemaker  for fridges of the same period as your fridge.
