Kenmore 106.44103300 - Fresh Food Frozen

Recommended Posts

I have a Kenmore side by side fridge that I assumed had a bad baffle (fridge would on and off start to freeze as the temperature in the house warmed up at the change of seasons, thought maybe it was freezing). However, today I popped a thermometer in the freezer and the temperature is ~-15F (fridge is at ~30F) - I think the thing is running on overdrive!
The service and wiring sheet I found behind the bottom grill (Service and Wiring Sheet No. 5019 106 00442) states that this fridge should automatically enter diagnostic mode at power up (actual verbiage is "The service diagnostic mode starts automatically at power-up and remains ON for 10 minutes.  This means that it's necessary to remove power from the entire appliance for a few seconds, re-apply power and verify the appliance status.  The diagnostic tests the thermistor status, the air baffle status and connection between main control boards and the user interface board" - it then goes on to explain what the different displays could show).  Anyway, when I remove power and fire the fridge back up, the two displays simply show the freezer and fresh food temp set points immediately, and not the letters the described in the service sheet.

Can anyone give me some pointers on where to start for figuring out what the issue could be?  FYI, the main board number (per the service sheet and verified on RC) is 8206668.

Thanks

Nick K.

yep no real diagnostics from UI

I think I'd start with thermistor tests.

SUGGESTIONS ON DIAGNOSIS

IMPORTANT:

  1. Check harness connectors for good con- tact.

  2. Before replacing any component verify, whenever possible, that the component has proper continuity or resistance values. There must be proper power to operate the component.

Display Shows Error Codes

• If error codes “C”, “d” or “CF” show in the display, refer to the “User Interface Failure Feedback”and“ComponentTesting”charts and check out the appropriate compo- nent(s).

Display Is Normal

  • Disconnect power for 10 seconds and re- connect power. If error code is displayed after 3 minutes, refer to the “User Interface Failure Feedback” and “Component Test- ing” charts, and check out the appropriate component(s).

  • If no error codes display and a malfunction is occurring, check or troubleshoot the fol- lowing appropriate areas. Also refer to the “Component Testing” and “Troubleshooting” charts.

    • -  Electrical system

    • -  Restricted or lack of proper airflow

    • -  Defrost system

    • -  Unusual noises

    • -  Cooling system

      Display Is Blank

• Refer to “User Interface Failure Feedback” and “Troubleshooting” charts.
