hi can someone look at my picture and tell me if this looks like a normal functioning defrost system? I have replaced my jazz board a couple months ago and I pulled the cover off to see how everything looked and top half of coil was frosted and the bottom part of the coil appeared to be defrosting?

We could if there was a picture posted here.

it's hard to say.... need more pictures taken over time..... these could have been taken after a defrost... no information regarding how  long the fridge has been running.

As Bro Ivazques stated,  we also need some context... what are your freezer temps?  Are you asking because you are experiencing warmer than normal temps or did you remove  the cover out of curiosity?

I don't see any big problems with that frost pattern.  If your temps seem good to you. Then it is doing its job.  You will know you have an issue if the milk seems warmer than normal etc. If you keep pulling that back panel off to inspect your just going to drive yourself crazy. It will frost up and defrost itself and the frost pattern will look different at different stages of the cycle.

thanks for the replies.... this is how it went,

my refrigerator was warm and freezer was normal. after troubleshooting ended up replacing the Jazz board. I defrosted the coil programmed the Jazz board and it seemed to doc the problem.

I ised to be able to set the freezer and the refrigerator settings on the Jazz board to 4 and maintain 36-38 degrees in refrigerator and 0 in the freezer now with the new board If I use 4 for a setting it is right around 40 degrees and it's driving me nuts! why do I have to crank the settings now

The main thing is if it can get down to the proper temp.  If it does don't worry about the number you have to set it on to make it happenB)

doesn't sound like a sealed system failure.   How are you taking fresh food temps?   it's best to take fresh food temps in the morning  when you are certain no one has opened the door for many hours.  Once doors are opened,  a reading of 40f is not unusual.

If it is driving you nuts. Try to reset the unit.  Unplug the box, unplug your new jazz board. Reprogram your jazz board. Maybe just maybe it didn't program correctly or you have the sensor in a slightly different location, after you did your work.
