I have replaced the start relay and capacitor and also checked that the fan is running and we have the proper readings on the ohm meter with the compressor. We cleaned the coils, however the compressor is still starting up and turning off after 15 seconds, and after an hour the compressor is warm to touch. Not sure what else to try.... Any help would be appreciated, don't want to replace!!!!! Thanks!

If you put on the right relay and overload and it is installed properly, you have a bad compressor and it will not be worth fixing. Sorry,      that is one of the last well made refrigerators, expect about half the life of this one on any new one you buy ?

Sounds like a failure in the compressor's run windings.

but just to be certain,  if you don't already have the tech sheet,  look behind the front kick plate and obtain it.   Then put the fridge in service test 2 to force compressor to run. If the compressor stays on,  you may have a board failure.   Those  Jazz boards can do some really strange things.

Ohm testing the compressor could probably reveal a bad winding as well.

The ohm meter test on the compressor showed the correct readings for each prong combination. However, I just ran the service test 2 and the same thing happened as when I plug it in to run. The fan turns on and the compressor kicks on and is humming for 10-15 seconds and then shuts off. Is it time for a repair man? Or a new fridge?

Thank you all!! I had a feeling that this was the answer, but really hoped I was wrong!

Now my next question, should I stay away from reconditioned refrigerator?

When we bought our expensive appliance package 12 years ago we were newly weds and had money!!! Now we have 3 kids and no money so I really don't want to spend $1500 on the new matching model but can pay $850 for a reconditioned one at a Sears Outlet.

I don't know anything about appliances or which stores are good to buy from..... Just looking for advice and you all have been so helpful!!

reconditioned may be okay.. however, but I would shy away from the   Kenmore brand.   Since Kenmores are just a rebranded lg,  samsung, whirlpool, frigidaire or ge,  they can sometimes be like a bad stepchild... no one wants to claim them and it's sometimes hard to get documentation.  Not it every case,  however  but it happens enough that I don't recommend them anymore.

btw  great kickazz job on that fridge diagnostics  Momma Diy!
