My Sub-zero 561 icemaker is overflowing. It would deposit ice cubes into the bucket and then water will overflow into the bucket (about 1 cup). Water pressure is not a problem, we have replaced the water inlet valve and also adjusted the control unit (turning the plastic switch clockwise) to no avail. Not sure what is causing this problem and what to do next? Suggestions much appreciated.

Is all the water making it to the ice mold or is some water splashing out of the fill cup on the end of the icemaker where the water tube goes in? The water should run for between 5 and 9 seconds when the icemaker calls for water.

All the water is making it to the ice mold. The ice cubes are full size, and connected to each other with excess water.

A whole cup of water in excess of what the mold can hold sounds like more than just an out of adjustment cube size. You either have an icemaker that is keeping the water valve open too long, way too much water pressure, or another leaking water valve. Your icemaker sounds like the whirlpool style. Does the front of it look like this when you take the cover off?

Yes it looks like the picture above.

Suggestions on what to do next to figure out where the problem is?

Is the fill time about 7 seconds? Is the mold itself leaking? I'm trying to figure out if you need a new icemaker.

The mold itself is not leaking because the ice cubes that come out are full sized. We will need to check the duration of the fill time and get back to you. If we need to replace the ice maker, what is the part that you would recommend?

We were lucky! We just got a new batch of ice and about 12 seconds of fill before the water starts to fill into the bucket. Is there a way to shorten the fill time with the control module?

Posted

Not with a 12 second fill time.  Normal fill time is around 7 seconds, the adjustment screw is only to be turn one full turn in either direction which doesn't increase/decrease fill time by more then 1 to 1-1/2 seconds at most.

Most likely the trace and contact fingers that run against the trace board on the back of the front wheel is damaged or one of the tabs holding the gear wheel on are broken letting the gear move around and contact the fill trace too long.

Bottom line, it sounds like  you will need a new icemaker or at least the module/head.   Replacing the complete icemaker can sometimes be much cheaper then trying to replace just the module then you still have the old mold and t-stat.

I would go with this one. You'll need to use some parts off your old ice maker. These guys have a great return policy.

Thank you, I have just ordered the part, will let you know once we have it installed. Thank you for your help!

Part arrived, we had to replace the plastic part where the water tube comes into the ice maker with the old part. The metal support bracket was also slightly bent so we also replaced it with the part from the old ice maker. Installed the new ice maker afterwards and now getting regular ice cubes. Problem fixed!!! Thank you.
